A big welcome to Kylie Dunn from Jack & Freda. Kylie makes beautiful jewellery with gorgeous tassels…lets just say, I’m a fan! Here in her #incredibleindependents interview she shares more about her business and how she got started.

1) Why did you start your business?

My background was working in the advertising industry in Soho, but after having our 2 boys, we decided to leave London and move to Berkshire. I knew I didn’t want to be juggling a ‘real’ job and commuting so left all of that behind. I do love working though, and always need a project, so I set up Jack & Freda on maternity leave. In our new town, there was a gap in the market for a cool, independent, design-led shop, so I thought I’d set one up! I sold other makers products from my website and had a (very short lived) market stall. That was over 3 years ago – I always had a passion for making, so started creating my own jewellery 18mths ago and Jack & Freda is what it is today!

2) What do you love about running your own independent business?

I pretty much love everything about it – the making, sourcing materials, photography, marketing, the day-to-day interaction with my customers and followers.  Obviously the flexibility is great too – I can fit my work in around my family life. The ‘shopsmall’ trend is strong at the moment, so it feels like there’s a lot of love and support out there for independent businesses (long may it last!)

3) What is your favourite product or service and why?

I’ve just launched some new letter necklaces so they’re currently my favourite. Customers can choose their own tassel colour so every day I have the opportunity for taking new photos for social media!

4) Let’s spread the indie love, name some other independent businesses you support.

Ooh, I’ve made so many friends on Instagram – I’ve never met most of them but through stories and messaging, I kind of feel like I know them! I love @we_are_konoc, @cotton.twist, @sparklechildlondon, @lalaandpom, @mutha.hood and for hilarious insta stories, @emilybrooksuk

5) Which is your favourite social media platform and why?

Instagram all the way! For the inspiration but also the communities and friendships that have come from spending far too much time on it!Kylie’s latest creation – rainbow tassel earrings!

A massive thank you to Kylie for taking part in this interview, please keep supporting those #incredibleindependents out there. I just love Kylie’s work and am just trying to decide which pair of earrings or necklace I should buy – I’ve just seen her fabulous rainbow tassel necklace and earrings – just gorgeous! Do head to her Instagram or website and check out what she has on offer.

Please keep on sharing those #incredibleindependents out there with me, I love to hear about them!
