Welcome to Tim from Objectables, the next in my series of #incredibleindependents – Tim and his wife make very funny cards which are available online and in their lovely shop in Folkestone, definitely worth a look if you want a funny Christmas card, I love them!

1) Why did you start your business?

I started about 5 years ago because I had been working in creative industries being creative but always working under other creative umbrellas and I wanted to make something that represented me. I started painting furniture using a lot of text and my humour but in order to make something that might actually make money I made 3 Xmas cards one year. Now I pretty much just make cards.

2) What do you love about running your own independent business?

It’s great to try and determine your own destiny ( you mostly fail but it;’s great to try). Also I now run the business with my wife which is great. our close relationship enables us to be honest with each other as well as supportive.

3) What is your favourite product or service you provide and why?

Obviously we love all our products !! .But is suppose some cards you like more than others. I love my wife range of rude kids cards and I really like the new range of enamel pins we have just released which are a bit more aimed at middle aged users than all top the pins out there.

4) Let’s spread the indie love, name some other independent businesses you support.

We have met so many great little card companies over the years and I’d love to name check them all but I’m not going to. Rosie Made a Thing and Veronica Dearly are 2 people I met early on who are now doing really well. Not only are they stupidly lovely people but what they do is fantastic. They both inspire me to keep on going and try to be as good as them. It won’t happen but it’s nice to have a go. There are some really great independent shops on the Old High Street in Folkestone too like Moo Like A Monkey and Kitty McCall ,these and other brilliant shops and people make it a really inspiring street to work on.

5) Which is your favourite social media platform and why?

We only really use Instagram. Just find that is the easiest platform to use and it fits with how we want to post.

Thank you to Tim for taking part and supporting our #incredibleindependents campaign. Please continue to support your local independents and use the hashtag and of course please do go and check out Objectables
