Welcome to Emma from Little Ginger, based in Kingston Market.

1) Why did you start your business?

After years of teaching in Primary Education I became increasingly disillusioned with the system & anti the pressures on children when the new curriculum came in. I had for a while been thinking about going full circle & returning to my catering roots… plus, it was a case of ‘if I don’t take the leap now’ it may never happen! So – Little Ginger was born & I opened my 1st pop up at Kingston Market on 5th August 2016. 

2) What do you love about running your own Independent Business?

I love running my own business as I’m passionate about what I do – I love making people happy through food & I love tinkering around in the kitchen making new recipes. Plus I love the community down at the market – there is such a vibrant range of cultures – there’s never a dull day and I love meeting new customers who are excited to find a stall like Little Ginger but also the growing family of regulars who stop for a catch up us well as a feed up!

3) What is your favourite dish your serve and why?

My fave dish!!!!! Argh!!! Too hard. It changes all the time. I try & cook seasonally so right now I’m loving sweet potatoes & chard. Anything roasted or in a curry-you will always have me at Dal!

4) Let’s spread the indie love, name some other independent businesses you support.

Little Ginger is ALL about supporting local – my veg supplier is a neighbour & grows lots locally. I’ve met @ripeandnine through Insta & we work together now. Also @healthywholeme. I LOVE our neighbours at the market @phoreal & all the other stall holders.

5) Which is your favourite social media platform and why?

Fave platform is definitely Insta! I love it’s accessibility (I’m so over Facebook!) & connectivity-met some amazing people & I really feel there’s a genuine community vibe. Support your local independents by using the hashtag #incredibleindependents and tell me why you love them!
